after many months of listening to The Savage Nation on KNEW 910-AM in San Francisco, the morons
stopped Net-streaming, without any warning, and I had to scramble on Thursday evening just to find a
station which Net-broadcast it from 7-10pm, EST. Actually, that's a minor point. The real issue is how
uncomfortable I got when things changed abruptly, without warning. In years gone by, it would have
been a mere minor annoyance, and a quick adjustment would have fixed the problem. These days, it
becomes a major crusade to scroll through the myriad Radio Program Locator's Talk Radio Listings, and
find just one with the right streaming schedule. After almost an hour, I found WDBO 580-AM in Orlando,
FL, which works for me. To a point: my tolerance for abrupt change has diminished, with age. After
getting way too comfortable and in a familiar rut, the change caused me to pour a double screwdriver, and
furiously search listings and radio stations. What if it had been something really important? Something
life threatening? Would I have been able to handle it? Well, I did and am listening to The Savage Nation,
as I finish-up this diatribe, so I guess it worked. Is this a 'model' for future mini-crisies? Dunno; won't
know that until I go there, and do that, and get the t-shirt, in days to come. Rest assured, I'll keep you
posted.

Yes, my personal and corporate Income Taxes are paid and in the mail, weeks ago. It's so damned complex
that an small army of CPAs — Ernst, Kochenour, Smeyser & Burg Co — are required to do them for
me.
We need to jettison this entire income tax system, and the IRS, and institute a simple, Flat Tax of 13% or a

I'll be the first to say it: I'm a dolt. In last Friday's Journal, I promised dozens of pictures of the 14th Open
House Celebration; I didn't snap even one. I was so busy with over 1,500 visitors on saturday, I was split
into so many directions that I left my Kodak 000 3.1 Megapixel on my desk, and completely forgot about it.

Dad turned 80 on Saturday, and Dave Santanna's awesome 3-piece jazz band played "Happy Birthday"
for him, while hundreds cheered and clapped; Tri-County BBQ served delicious pork BBQ and Dutch
Potato Salad; Allegro Vineyards served many of their finest wines to over 1,500 of our customers and
visitors.
The 17yr cycle cicadas will be here in a few weeks, and Liquid Sevin® is the answer. Spray tree bark
liberally (hate that word); new leaves too.
The price of milk continues to rise, here in southcentral Penna, but is still more expensive than gas at the
pumps. So's a gallon of water: $1.99 at the convenience stores.
Damn; just damn! Although I had a great weekend, two of my key employees didn't. Dave's (one of my
main crew chiefs) father and aunt were in a very bad car accident on Saturday, and he had to rush to the
hospital early on during The Open House. Seth, also a crew chief and my main mason, was working on his
neighbor's flagstone patio and almost cut off a finger with a chisel hammer. I'm still waiting for medical
updates.
On Monday, my Netscape v7.1 Email client came under a DOS (Denial Of Service) attack, wherein
thousands of replicated emails were bounced off my corporate server, in Chicago, and flooded my email
inbox. I shut down and re-started and ran Norton-Symantec Anti-Virus 2004, just to be sure my machine
wasn't infected. By 3pm, there were 11,515 messgaes; most of it spam. By 6pm, there were 17,655 emails in
the inbox. By 7:15pm, the attack was over. I deleted all units in the inbox, and polled the server, to see
what remained. Clear. Whew! I'd like to track down the subhumans who initiated the attack, and whack
them. Grrrrrrr.
Damn, just damn! It's happened again: we were robbed. 10 B&B Cleveland Select Flowering Pears,
1½-1¾", from Mountain Creek Nursery, were stolen right out of my nursery grounds. This has happened
5 other times since 9-20-01. And people wonder why I carry a gun? No, I won't say anymore.
